Police superintendents belong to the strategy and management branch of the national police force. They are senior officers, and lead specialist departments or police stations.

Their tasks include: managing departments, steering operations, and coordinating and monitoring the activities of investigating officers. They participate in the planning, realization and appraisal of projects relating to public safety and combating crime.

Four methods of recruitment are used:

  • competitive external examinations
  • competitive internal examinations
  • access through promotion
  • selection on merit
